Manufacturing processes operate with high production volumes, increasingly stringent tolerances, and quality standards that demand inspection systems capable of detecting any deviation quickly, reliably, and repeatedly.

In this context, the Machine vision has become a key technology for automating inspection and quality control processes.

Its integration with robotic systems allows a shift from manual inspection, limited by human factors and production time constraints, to an automated system capable of continuously analyzing parts under predefined criteria.

Machine vision: from manual inspection to automated control

One of the main challenges for the industry is to ensure that the parts coming off a production line meet the established requirements.

In certain plastic components intended for the automotive sector, a single issue can cause an entire batch to be deemed non-compliant. Therefore, having a system capable of inspecting 100% of the parts can make a significant difference in terms of quality and traceability.

The industrial machine vision It allows capturing images of the parts using cameras and automatically analyzing different characteristics to identify defects, deviations, or anomalies.

Compared to a manual inspection, these systems offer a process:

Automaticreducing operator intervention.

Continuous, integrated directly into production.

Repeatableapplying the same inspection criteria to each piece.

Fast, adapted to the rhythms of industrial manufacturing.

Scalableallowing working with different references and inspection criteria.

But simply installing a camera isn't enough to achieve these results. The real challenge lies in... design and integrate the machine vision solution into the production process.

A machine vision project integrated with robotics

At Teciman Ingeniería we have developed an automated cell for the quality control of plastic parts intended for the automotive industry, combining robotics, machine vision and industrial automation.

The solution stems from the injection process itself.

The robot picks up the parts directly from the injection mold and places them on a conveyor belt. From that point, a multi-camera system automatically analyzes the parts to detect defects previously identified during manual inspections.

The result is a automated inspection integrated into the production line itself, without the need to introduce additional manual operations that may affect cycle times.

The cell's architecture incorporates:

Two conveyor belts.

A robot integrated with the production line.

A multi-camera machine vision system.

Control and communication systems between the different elements.

Programming and implementation of the complete solution.

This integration allows machine vision to cease being an independent system and become part of the manufacturing process itself.

The challenge of inspecting different references

One of the most relevant aspects of this project is its ability to adapt to a mass production with different references.

The cell is prepared to inspect simultaneously four different referenceseach with its own types of defects and acceptance criteria.

This poses an additional challenge for the vision system, as it is not simply a matter of detecting a specific defect, but of adapting the inspection to the specific characteristics of each reference.

Automation must sequentially coordinate the production and inspection of the different parts, maintaining the reliability of the process and preventing the incorporation of quality control from becoming a bottleneck.

The importance of validating machine vision before reaching the plant

In industrial automation projects, a fundamental part of the success lies in the pre-installation phase.

For this reason, the solution was tested beforehand in the Téciman automation laboratory.

This phase allows us to check the behavior of the vision systems, validate the detection of the defined defects, and make the necessary adjustments before transferring the solution to the plant.

The goal is clear: to get the machine into production. extensively validatedreducing implementation times and facilitating a more agile start-up.

Beyond detecting defects: turning data into quality

The evolution of machine vision is making these systems increasingly relevant within the quality strategies of industrial companies.

The ability to automatically inspect each part allows for generating information about the process and detecting deviations before they become a larger problem.

Therefore, machine vision should not be understood solely as a technology for "seeing" a part.

Its true value lies in transforming visual information into an automatic decision within the production process.

When properly integrated with robotics, automation, and control systems, it can become a fundamental tool for moving towards more reliable, efficient, and traceable manufacturing processes.

Machine vision and automation: a strategic combination for industry

The development of solutions like this demonstrates how technologies like the machine vision and robotics They can be integrated to solve specific industry needs.

In sectors such as automotive, where production volumes and quality requirements are high, automating inspection allows progress towards a model in which quality control is integrated from the manufacturing process itself.

In Teciman Engineering We work on the design and implementation of turnkey industrial automation solutions, integrating engineering, robotics, machine vision and commissioning to meet the specific needs of each process.

Because the goal of automation is not solely to produce more.

Is to produce better, control better, and have increasingly reliable processes.

Do you want to see the solution in action?

You can see the automated cell and its machine vision inspection system in the following video.

https://www.teciman.com/ingenieria/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Diseno-e-implantacion-de-maquina-a-medida-con-vision-artificial-TECIMAN-INGENIERIA.mp4

Tell us how you work and we'll study which part of the process can be automated. For more information call us at 947 20 91 41 or send us an email to teciman@teciman.com.
